Nepal
It can be speculated that an archive of architecture exists in two distinct
modes: first, the built artefact and second, representations of that artefact
(Kleinman, 2001). A neutral archive of architecture may not be possible,
because it is always coloured by the views of the author. However, an
archive of architecture in Nepal is necessary, in order to create a data set
for analysis. The archive is collected as a timeline, interspersed with key
political, economic and social changes that took place in Nepal over the
years. This allows for an analysis of the influence of these factors in the
shaping of architectural practice in the country. While a historical study
of the forms of architectural production is studied since the feudal period
of the country, the time period from 1900 to the present is detailed on a
year by year basis.
The timeline became an important tool of archiving and understanding the trajectories that shape architecture and urbanism, and therefore help us predict trajectories that architecture of Nepal and consequently South Asia will take in the future.
